Training Coordinators report for web site for Dec. 2011 – Feb. 2012
As I write this I feel I should let you know I have fully recovered from my surgery and Thursday I set 6 beaver traps with the hope of catching 2 from a lady’s pond. I got lucky and did so and had a great evening in my new (to me) skinning shed with my two trainees. Boy this they so not learn how to flesh a beaver yet! I am looking forward to a busy and (hopefully successful) trapping season. I also wish to apologize to those of you who were anticipating the advanced training to support your application for Journeyman Trapper status. I delayed it the first time for my health reasons and then Mother Nature stepped in and gave us snow west and 2+ inches of rain east (in my area). So, we will do this in the spring a few weeks after the Fur Sale.
We have a few new District Directors and an opening or two to fill so take a look and see if you might be (or know) just the person for this job. Your new slate of officers you elected this fall takes over in a few weeks. Please give them your full support and let’s work together for the betterment of the VTA.
If you have any programs you would like to see established for the VTA send me an outline and I will look at it for possible inclusion in our VTA family of educational or professional programs.
I have already been contacted about two basic training classes for after the New Year. It looks like a busy training season come spring.
If you can catch coyotes consistently, I need to know it. I might have an opportunity for you. Send me an email and tell me how many you caught last year and how many you are catching this year. Also, if you live between Charlottesville and Lynchburg and within about 15-20 miles of Rte 29 we need to talk about a coyote research project at a local college and how you can help.
Don’t forget, be safe on the line and take a non-trapper on the line with you. Remember to train your replacement. If you don’t, who will? Ed Crebbs
